The upscale choice on this coast, sitting on its own headland above the little Cala del Pi cove just north of Platja d'Aro. Rooms are large and quiet, the food is a proper reason to stay in, and the spa is one of the best on the Costa Brava. It is not a children's resort and makes no pretence of being one, but it welcomes families warmly and the cove below is a two minute walk down a gentle ramp rather than a cliff staircase.
Our verdict
The Costa Brava at its most grown-up, and still workable with children. Best for families of three or four with young kids, or for parents who want one properly good week.
The rooms
Large five-star rooms and junior suites, most with a big terrace and a sea view, some with a private jacuzzi outside. The family option is a junior suite with a sofa bed rather than a true second bedroom, so a family of four sleeps in one space: fine for younger children, tight for teenagers. Cots free, and a proper Nespresso and kettle in every room.

Ten minutes away in Platja d'Aro, with a toddler splash area and big slides, the perfect one-day counterweight to a calm hotel.
Little train into Platja d'Aro
The seafront tourist train saves the walk and counts as an outing in itself for anyone under six.

Excellent for babies: quiet, spacious rooms, free cots, a kettle for bottles and a cove you can reach with a pram down the ramp.

The cove is shallow and sheltered, but the pool has no separate shallow section, so it is arms and armbands there.
Kid
4 to 11 yrs
Happy here for four or five days, then they will want the water park. Plan Aquadiver as the midweek highlight.
Teen
12 yrs and up
Good wifi, good food, paddleboards on the cove and Platja d'Aro's shops nearby. The junior suite layout is the weak point at this age.

Is it suitable for young children?
Yes, and staff are genuinely warm about it, but there is no kids club and the atmosphere is calm. Families with babies and under-sevens fit best.
Is there a room with a separate bedroom?
The junior suites are large but open plan, with a sofa bed rather than a second bedroom. If you need a door between you, look at the two-room options at booking.
How busy does the cove get?
Very, from about midday in July and August, since it is a public beach. Before nine and after five it is calm and often nearly empty.
