Year-round winter sun, Red Sea reefs and giant water parks

🐠Sharm El Sheikh

Egypt

Updated 1 July 2026

Sharm El Sheikh is one of Europe's most dependable winter-sun escapes for families, with warm, dry days right through December to February when much of Europe is grey. The draw is the combination: enormous all-inclusive resorts with free kids clubs and huge water parks, a warm Red Sea full of coral reefs you can snorkel straight off the beach, and flights of only four to five hours. It is outstanding value too, so a smart all-inclusive week here often costs less than a simpler trip closer to home.

Parents also ask

When is the best time to visit with kids?

Sharm is a year-round destination, but its standout season is winter, when it delivers reliable warm sun as Europe turns cold. Spring and autumn are lovely too, while high summer is very hot, so favour pool and shade in the middle of the day.

Is the sea safe and warm for children?

The Red Sea is warm and calm, ideal for children, but most beaches front a coral reef rather than open sand, so pack reef shoes and choose a resort with a gentle marked entry or a shallow bay for toddlers.

Which area is best for a family?

Nabq Bay has the biggest water-park resorts and the shortest airport transfer, while Sharks Bay adds smart hotels and Soho Square's evening entertainment. Both have excellent reefs right off the beach.

How long is the flight and transfer?

Flights from much of Europe run around four to five hours, and Sharm El Sheikh airport is only minutes from the Nabq and Sharks Bay resorts, so the transfer is quick with tired children.
