Pine forests, calm shallow beaches and top family resorts
🌲Halkidiki
Greece
Updated 1 July 2026
Halkidiki is the three-fingered peninsula reaching into the Aegean below Thessaloniki, and it is one of Greece's most reassuring family destinations. Two of its fingers, Kassandra and Sithonia, are made for children: calm, shallow Blue Flag beaches, pine forests that run right down to the sea, and a warm, laid-back mood from May to October. The third finger, Athos, is a monastic peninsula that is off-limits to casual visitors. Add short transfers from Thessaloniki airport and a run of the best family resorts in Greece, from Sani to Ikos, and it is an easy place to relax with kids.

Parents also ask
Kassandra or Sithonia for families?
Kassandra has the big family resorts, the shortest transfers and the liveliest towns, so it is easiest for a first trip. Sithonia is greener, quieter and more natural, lovely with a car for older or more outdoorsy families.
Can you visit the third finger, Athos?
Not as a family. Mount Athos is a monastic community closed to casual visitors and women, though boat trips let you view the monasteries from the sea.
How long is the airport transfer?
Thessaloniki airport (SKG) is around 70 to 90 minutes from most family resorts, one of the gentler transfers among Greece's beach destinations.
When is the best time to go with kids?
May to October is warm, with June and September the sweet spot: hot sea, sunny days and fewer crowds than peak August.
