The Riviera Maya and Cancun coast is, for many families, the single best all-inclusive destination on the planet: a long ribbon of white Caribbean sand from Cancun south through Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Akumal to Tulum, lined with giant family resorts that build the entertainment in. The formula is consistent and hard to beat: all inclusive that really covers everything, warm shallow water, free age-split kids clubs and, at the best addresses, a proper water park you never leave the grounds to reach. In winter it is reliably hot and dry when Europe is not, which is exactly when families most need it, and there are cenotes, Mayan ruins and eco-parks a short drive away when you want more than the beach. Three honest caveats before you book. The flight from Europe is a long haul of roughly ten to eleven hours each way. Sargassum seaweed can wash up between April and August, worst in some years and barely there in others. And this coast has a very high number of adults-only resorts, so you have to book a genuinely family hotel rather than assume every big-name resort welcomes children.
