Sal is Cape Verde's family beach island, and one of the most reliable winter-sun escapes within a short-ish flight of Europe. Even in December and January the days sit around 25 to 28C, the long golden sweep of Santa Maria beach shelves gently into warm, shallow water, and a wall of all-inclusive resorts lines the sand with kids clubs and pools.
