The Costa de la Luz is Atlantic Andalusia, a run of long, wide, golden beaches backed by pine-covered dunes and whitewashed towns like Conil and Vejer de la Frontera. The family heart is Novo Sancti Petri at Chiclana, where big all-inclusive resorts with kids clubs and pools line up behind the vast La Barrosa beach. Costa Ballena near Rota and Isla Canela in Huelva add quieter, shallower stretches. The Atlantic is the trade-off: the sea is cooler and breezier than the Med, so pack shade and a windbreak, but the beaches are enormous, the towns are lovely and Cadiz and Seville are easy day trips.

When is the best time to visit with kids?
May to October is the window, with July to September the warmest and best for swimming. Spring and early autumn are pleasant and quieter, though the Atlantic sea stays on the cool side.
Is the sea cold and windy?
The Atlantic is cooler and breezier than the Mediterranean, especially in the afternoon. Do beach mornings and pool afternoons, pack a windbreak and shade, and the breeze becomes a plus for kite flying and windsurfing.
Which airport should we use?
Jerez (XRY) and Seville (SVQ) are both about an hour from the Chiclana resorts. For Isla Canela in Huelva, Faro in Portugal is often the quickest option.
Do we need a hire car?
If you stay put at an all-inclusive you can manage without one, but a car makes the beaches, the white towns, Cadiz and day trips much easier with children.
