Unbeatable-value winter sun on a flat, sandy island
🏝️Djerba
Tunisia
Updated 1 July 2026
Djerba is Tunisia's easy family island: flat and sunny, dotted with white villages and palm groves, and rimmed with long, shallow, gently shelving sandy beaches that are ideal for toddlers. This is where you come for genuinely unbeatable-value all-inclusive resorts, most with a free kids club and many with water parks or slides. Winter days are mild at around 20 to 22C, the sea is cool in the coldest months so heated pools matter, and the flight is a short 2.5 to 3 hours with an airport right on the island. Add the Houmt Souk market, a crocodile farm, flamingos, camel rides and Star Wars filming sites nearby, and you have a cheap, warm, wonderfully easy family break.

Parents also ask
When is the best time to visit Djerba with kids?
Spring and autumn are ideal, warm and sunny with a swimmable sea. Winter is mild at around 20 to 22C with reliable sun and unbeatable prices, but the sea is cool, so choose a resort with a heated pool. Summer is hot and busy.
Can we swim in the sea in winter?
The sea is cool from December to February, too cold for most children to swim comfortably. This is when a resort with a heated indoor or outdoor pool really matters, and several of the family hotels here have one.
Is Djerba good value for a family?
Very much so. Djerba is among Europe's best-value winter-sun destinations, with all-inclusive family resorts, kids clubs and cheap eats and activities off-resort, often well below the cost of a comparable week in the Canaries or southern Spain.
How do we get around the island?
Taxis are cheap and plentiful, and many families rely on them for outings to Midoun, Houmt Souk and the attractions. A hire car gives you freedom to reach Djerbahood, the crocodile farm and the quieter beaches at your own pace.
