Long Beach is the most modern feeling big resort on the east coast, built around a piazza of restaurants that makes evenings feel like a small town rather than a hotel corridor. Four pools and 1.3 kilometres of white sand are the headline, and the kids club is free for ages 2 to 11 and stays open until 10pm, which is genuinely rare and buys parents a proper dinner. The east coast is the windiest side of the island, so expect breeze and a lagoon that ripples in the afternoon.

Our verdict
The best pick on the east coast if you want a modern resort and evenings that belong to the adults again. Take a junior suite lagoon side and plan beach mornings, pool afternoons when the wind gets up.
The rooms
Contemporary rooms and junior suites arranged in three curved wings around the gardens, most looking at the lagoon. Family suites have a separate children's room, and junior suites take a sofa bed comfortably for a family of three.

Is it right for your kids?
Baby
0 to 1 yr
Cots and a milk kitchen are available and the club takes children from two, so with a baby you are still doing the childcare yourself.
Toddler
1 to 3 yrs
Club from age two is the big win, though the lagoon here has seagrass patches and the wind can make small swimmers grumpy.
Kid
4 to 11 yrs
Four pools, sailing lessons, archery and a club that runs until 10pm make this one of the strongest picks on the island for 5 to 11 year olds.
Teen
12 yrs and up
Real teens programming, watersports and a resort that looks modern enough to photograph. No village nearby, which is the only limit.

Parents also ask
Is the east coast too windy for a family?
It is the breeziest side of Mauritius, strongest from June to September. Do water in the morning, pools in the afternoon, and it becomes an advantage rather than a problem.
Is the kids club really free until 10pm?
Yes, the supervised programme is included from 9.30am to 10pm for ages 2 to 11. Individual nannies and in room babysitting are charged separately.
Do we need a hire car here?
Only if you plan to explore. There is nothing within walking distance, so most families use resort transfers or a taxi for the water park and Ile aux Cerfs.

Low rise blocks spread through big gardens, with Beach Rooms right on the sand and larger family options that sleep four comfortably. Interiors are classic rather than trendy, but the balconies are generous and the ground floor rooms open straight onto grass, which toddlers love.
