Blanes is a working Catalan seaside town rather than a resort strip, so you get a long sandy beach with a lifeguard, a fishing harbour, a botanical garden on the headland and dinner for a family of four at a price that will surprise you. The hotel itself is basic: a small rooftop pool, a plain dining room, no entertainment. What it buys you is the town.

The rooms
Simple, clean, compact rooms, most with a small balcony and a few with a sea glimpse. Family rooms take four with two singles alongside the double, but four people plus suitcases is genuinely tight. Cots are free, high chairs are in the dining room, and the kettle is at reception rather than in the room.

Marimurtra botanical garden
Cliff-edge gardens with cactus paths and a famous viewpoint over the sea. The climb up is steep, take the little tourist train if legs are short.
Fish auction at the harbour
Boats come in late afternoon and the catch is unloaded in crates. Free, ten minutes, and children remember it longer than the pool.
Fireworks week in late July
Blanes' international fireworks competition fires from the Sa Palomera rock for several nights running. Late, loud and completely worth one bedtime.

Cots are free and the promenade is perfectly flat for pram naps, but there is no baby pool and no changing facilities beyond your room.
Toddler
1 to 3 yrs
The beach does the work here: gentle shelving sand two minutes away. The rooftop pool is too deep to be useful at this age.

4 to 11 yrs
Great if your children like a town: bikes on the promenade, ice cream, the harbour, the gardens. Poor if they want slides.
Teen
12 yrs and up
Blanes is real Catalonia, not a party strip, which older teens either appreciate or find dull. The train to Barcelona goes from town.

Is there anything for children at the hotel?
Honestly, no. There is a small rooftop pool and that is it: no club, no animation, no play area. The value is the beach and the town at your door.
Is Blanes beach safe for small children?
It shelves gently and is lifeguarded through the summer, with flags. The section towards S'Abanell is the widest and calmest for paddling.
Can we do a day trip to Barcelona?
Yes, the local train from Blanes station reaches Barcelona in around an hour and a half. Doable with school-age children, long with a toddler.
