The Sirenis exists for one reason: Aquagames, a 12,000 square metre water park with 10 metre slide towers, speed slides and a pirate zone for smaller children, included for the whole stay. Nothing else at this price in Punta Cana comes close on water. The beach in front at Uvero Alto is so shallow you can walk out a long way before it reaches an adult's waist, which makes it unusually safe for children even though the surf here is livelier than in Bavaro. Be clear-eyed about the rest: food is average, rooms are tired in places, and the transfer is 45 minutes. You are buying slides and a beach, not polish.
Our verdict
The value pick. If the point of the week is slides and your budget is real, nothing else in Punta Cana gives you this much water for the money. Manage expectations on the food and you will have a very happy seven year old.
The rooms
Junior suites as standard, which sounds better than it is: they are spacious with a sofa bed and a balcony, but the finishes are four-star rather than the five stars on the sign. Family rooms take two adults and two children comfortably. Cots are free and the First Kid Free promotion often covers one child under twelve.

The pirate zone
A separate shallow section of Aquagames with low slides, ropes and water cannons, fenced away from the speed slides. The right place for a four to six year old.
Wade out at low tide
The shelf in front of the resort stays knee deep for a remarkably long way. Beach shoes help, there is coral rubble in places.
Master chef session at the kids club
The club runs a cooking corner and a mini disco. Neither is elaborate, but both reliably buy you an hour of shade.

Baby
0 to 1 yr
Possible but not the point. Free cots and a shallow pool, but no baby club and a 45 minute transfer. Better options exist for under-twos.
Toddler
1 to 3 yrs
The pirate zone and the knee-deep shoreline work very well. Keep them away from the tower end of the park entirely.
Kid
4 to 11 yrs
The target audience. Six to twelve gets the run of Aquagames and will not want to do anything else all week.
Teen
12 yrs and up
The speed slides hold their attention for a few days. After that, Uvero Alto is quiet and there is nothing to walk to, so bring a plan.

Is it really a five star hotel?
It carries five stars locally but the food and the room finishes are a solid four star by European standards. Book it for the water park and the price, and you will not be disappointed.
Can small children swim in the sea here?
They can play at the shoreline safely because the water stays knee deep for a long way, but Uvero Alto faces the open ocean and the waves are stronger than in Bavaro. Proper swimming happens in the pools.
What is the First Kid Free offer?
One child aged twelve or under often stays free sharing a room with two paying adults. It is a promotional rate, so it comes and goes, and it is worth checking directly before booking through a package.

Standard rooms are large and comfortable, but the section that matters for families is the Family Club: 288 dedicated family suites with a microwave and a minibar stocked with juice, cereal and milk, which changes the shape of an early morning entirely. It is a paid upgrade over the standard rooms and, with children under six, it is the one worth taking.
