The Palladium is where you go if the club matters more than the room. Castillo del Pirata is the biggest kids club the group runs anywhere in the Caribbean or Mexico, and it is free, split into a Baby Club for ones to threes, a Mini Club for fours to twelves and a Black and White Teen Club for thirteen to seventeen. The Raggs programme puts costumed dogs everywhere: singing at the pool, reading at the club, giving high fives in the lobby. There is a water park with big and small slides, mermaid fountains and a lagoon pool, open all day. The catch is the scale: this is a sprawling complex of linked hotels and you will do a lot of walking.

Our verdict

The best value on this coast if your children are between one and twelve and you intend to use the club. Accept that you are paying for the gardens and the childcare, not for the bathroom.

🛏️

The rooms

Low-rise blocks scattered through thick tropical gardens, which is charming and also means a walk. Rooms are comfortable rather than modern, with a jacuzzi in many of them. Family-friendly rooms with bunk beds and child-height fittings exist but are a paid category, so ask for them explicitly when you book.

How the KidProof Score works

Every hotel is rated on eight things families actually care about, then weighted by how much each one drives your choice. Room setup counts the most. The little touches break the ties.

Sleeps how many? Connecting rooms, family suites, a real extra bed?

Baby gear88

Clean travel cot, high chair, bottle warmer, changing table, kit to borrow.

Pool & play87

Shallow pool or paddling area, playground, kids club (free or paid).

Family dining80

Quick breakfast, kids menus, allergy options, snacks on hand.

Safety84

Secured windows, protected corners, watched pool, well kept grounds.

Stay logistics68

Laundry, in-room fridge, stroller access, parking, reliable Wi-Fi.

Location85

Close to family attractions, easy transport, park tickets or access.

Little touches90

Welcome gift for the child, staff who talk to kids, themed rooms.

Why families love it

  • Castillo del Pirata, the largest free kids club in the group
  • Baby Club from one year old, unusual in Punta Cana
  • Water park open 9am to 7pm with a lagoon pool and mermaid fountains
  • Raggs characters through the day, not just at the evening show

🗓️A day here with kids

  1. 8:30

    Breakfast in the nearest buffet

There are several across the complex. Use the one nearest your block, not the biggest one.

  2. 9:30

    Water park at opening

It opens at nine and is quiet for the first hour, which is when small children get the slides to themselves.

  3. 11:30

Kids club while the sun is high

Castillo del Pirata is largely indoor and air conditioned, which is the point at midday.

  4. 14:00

Lunch and a long shady sit

The gardens have real shade. Find a hammock between blocks and let the afternoon pass.

  5. 16:30

    Beach at Los Corales

The sand in front is soft and the water shallow. Walk north for El Cortecito if you want shops.

  6. 19:30

A la carte dinner across the complex

You can book restaurants at the neighbouring Palladium hotels, which is where the good food is.

Family things to do nearby

🐶

Raggs pool singalong

Runs mid morning at the main pool. Toddlers who will not go near an entertainer indoors happily join in when it is happening in the water.

Mermaid fountains and small slides

The junior half of the water park has low slides and water spouts at toddler height, fenced off from the big rides.

Iguana and gecko hunt in the gardens

The mature gardens are full of iguanas, hummingbirds and land crabs. Give a child a phone and a list and they will spend an hour on it.

Is it right for your kids?

👶Great fit

Baby

0 to 1 yr

The Baby Club takes children from twelve months at no extra charge, which almost nothing else in Punta Cana does. Free cots and a shaded splash area too.

🧒Great fit

Toddler

1 to 3 yrs

Ideal age here. The junior water zone, the Raggs characters and a club that will take them all morning.

🧑Great fit

Kid

4 to 11 yrs

Mini Club runs to twelve and the big slides are open to them. The gardens make the whole thing feel like an adventure rather than a car park with palms.

🧑‍🎤Great fit

Teen

12 yrs and up

The Black and White Teen Club is separate and reasonably well run, but the resort as a whole is aimed younger. Fine for one week, not two.

Parents also ask

Is the kids club really free from one year old?

Yes. The Baby Club (1 to 3), Mini Club (4 to 12) and Teen Club (13 to 17) are all included in the rate. Places for the youngest group are capped, so register early.

How much walking is there?

A lot. The complex links several Palladium hotels and a shuttle train circulates. Ask for a block between the main pool and the water park to cut most of it out.

Can we eat at the other Palladium hotels?

Yes, guests can book a la carte restaurants across the linked hotels, which widens the choice considerably. The buffet at your own hotel is the fallback, not the plan.

How is the beach at Los Corales?

Soft white sand with a gentle slope, one of the better sections of Bavaro. It is public, so there are vendors, and El Cortecito with its shops and fish market is a twenty-minute walk north.
