This is the fairy-tale one, formerly sold as Bahia Principe Fantasia and renamed Bahia Principe Explore Legend in March 2026 when the group restructured its brands. Nothing about the resort changed: three castles, one of them standing in the middle of the main pool, a water park with a run of colourful slides, and an evening multimedia projection that tells the story of the resort mascot on the castle walls. There is a children's spa doing princess manicures, a teen club with a cinema and a pool table, and a beach on the wide Arena Gorda stretch. Food is the weak point and the theming is squarely aimed at under-tens, but for a five to nine year old this is the most magical week in Bavaro.
Our verdict
Book it for the castle years. If your child still wants to be a knight or a princess, this delivers a week they will describe in detail for a decade. Eat at the a la carte restaurants and skip the buffet.
The rooms
512 suites, all with a separated sitting area, which means a baby can go down while the adults are still awake. The family suites sleep four to six comfortably and some have themed children's bedrooms with their own bunk area. Everything is newer and better finished than most of the Bavaro competition at this price.

The castle projection show
Every night the castle walls become a screen for the resort mascot's story. Arrive ten minutes early for a spot on the low wall, not the back of the crowd.
Kids spa treatment
The children's spa does short massages, manicures and hair braiding. It is a paid extra but modest, and it buys a genuinely calm hour.
Kids cooking workshop
The club runs cooking classes and costume workshops on a rotating programme. Check the board at breakfast, the good ones need signing up for.

The separate sitting area in every suite is the real feature at this age. Free cots, and the shallow pool edges are shaded until midday.
Toddler
1 to 3 yrs
The junior slides and the castle pool are perfectly scaled. The evening show finishes early enough for a normal bedtime.
Kid
4 to 11 yrs
The peak age. Castles, slides, workshops, kids spa and a mascot to chase. Five to nine is exactly the target.
Teen
12 yrs and up
The teen club has a gym, cinema, pool table and consoles, but the fairy-tale wrapper around it does not help. Older teenagers will roll their eyes.

Is this the same hotel as Bahia Principe Fantasia?
Yes. It was renamed Bahia Principe Explore Legend in March 2026 when the group replaced its Grand, Luxury, Sunlight and Fantasia sub-brands with Explore and Escape. Same castles, same water park, same address.
Is the water park included?
Yes, for guests of the resort, throughout the stay. Slides are height restricted, so measure your child on day one to avoid disappointment at the top of the stairs.
How is the food really?
Honest answer: the buffet is average and repetitive by day four. The a la carte restaurants are included and much better, so book one every night from the start.
Is the beach right there?
Arena Gorda is a wide, beautiful stretch but the walk from the room blocks takes several minutes and there is little shade on the way. Plan one beach trip a day rather than three.

Standard rooms are large and comfortable, but the section that matters for families is the Family Club: 288 dedicated family suites with a microwave and a minibar stocked with juice, cereal and milk, which changes the shape of an early morning entirely. It is a paid upgrade over the standard rooms and, with children under six, it is the one worth taking.
