Steigenberger Al Dau Beach Hotel

This is the beach half of the Steigenberger pair on Village Road, and it has the thing its slide-heavy sister lacks: one of the best stretches of sand in Hurghada town, with a lagoon-style entry that stays shallow and calm for a long way out. Add a walkable location near Senzo Mall and ten minutes from the marina, and it becomes the sensible base for families who want a real place around them rather than a compound.
Our verdict
Pick this over its slide-park sister if the sea matters more than the slides. Shallow lagoon, good food, short transfer and a town you can actually walk into.
The rooms
Solid, well-kept rooms with proper balconies, many looking over the lagoon and the sea. Family rooms and junior suites take four, and connecting doubles are available for larger groups. Ask for the lagoon side: it is quieter than the road side and you can see the beach from the balcony.

Family things to do nearby
Lagoon paddling
The water stays around knee height for a long stretch, which is the single best thing about this hotel for under-fives.
Walk to Senzo Mall
Air-conditioned, has a supermarket for bottled water and nappies, and a small play area when the heat is too much.
Boat day from the marina
Ten minutes by taxi to the New Marina, where the Giftun Island and Orange Bay boats leave each morning.
Is it right for your kids?
Baby
0 to 1 yr
The shallow lagoon and a short airport transfer make this an easy first Egypt trip with a baby. Free cots, and a supermarket ten minutes away.
Toddler
1 to 3 yrs
Sand that stays shallow for metres, and a kids club from four. Between two and four you will be in the water with them.
Kid
4 to 11 yrs
Happy here, but if slides are the priority they will spend the week looking across the promenade at the water park.
Teen
12 yrs and up
The best of the town-based options for teens: the marina, the mall and boat trips are all reachable without an organised tour.

Parents also ask
Do we get free access to the Aqua Magic water park?
Not automatically. The water park belongs to the sister hotel across the promenade and access depends on your rate or package, so confirm it in writing before you book if it matters to the children.
Is the beach good for small children?
Yes, it is one of the best in town for that: soft sand, a lagoon-style shallow entry and no drop-off close in. Water shoes are still worth packing for coral fragments.
Can we walk anywhere from the hotel?
Yes, Senzo Mall with its supermarket is a short walk and the seafront promenade runs past the door. The New Marina and its restaurants are about ten minutes by taxi.

in Hurghada
Baron Palace Sahl Hasheesh
Large, properly finished rooms and family suites with marble bathrooms and balconies, most facing the gardens or the sea. The family suites give you a separate bedroom with a door that closes, which is the whole reason to pay this much, and several sit within sight of the pools. Cots free.

Rixos Premium Magawish Suites & Villas
Suites and villas rather than plain rooms: most have a separate sitting area, and the villa units give you two bedrooms and a private terrace close to the beach. If you have a baby, ask for a villa on the garden side, where the evening music from the main pool does not carry.

in Hurghada
Movenpick Waterpark Resort & Spa Soma Bay
Low-rise Nubian-style buildings, no block over two storeys, with calm sand-toned rooms and terraces that open onto gardens. Family rooms connect two doubles, and the ground-floor garden rooms are the ones to ask for with small children: you step straight out, no lifts, no corridors.
