Soma Bay is the calm, grown-up end of this coast and this resort is its most family-capable address. The Splash Mania water park is zoned by age, with a toddler area for two to six, a middle zone for six to twelve and eight bigger slides reserved for over-twelves, so nobody spends the week queuing behind someone twice their size. The sand starts thirty metres from the rooms and runs three hundred metres along the bay. The price is the transfer: around forty minutes from Hurghada airport, and there is nothing outside the gate.

Our verdict

The calm, well-designed choice for families who want slides without the shouting, and the best option here if you are travelling with both a toddler and a teenager.

🛏️

The rooms

Low-rise Nubian-style buildings, no block over two storeys, with calm sand-toned rooms and terraces that open onto gardens. Family rooms connect two doubles, and the ground-floor garden rooms are the ones to ask for with small children: you step straight out, no lifts, no corridors.

How the KidProof Score works

Every hotel is rated on eight things families actually care about, then weighted by how much each one drives your choice. Room setup counts the most. The little touches break the ties.

Safety90

Stay logistics58

Laundry, in-room fridge, stroller access, parking, reliable Wi-Fi.

Location84

Close to family attractions, easy transport, park tickets or access.

Little touches88

Welcome gift for the child, staff who talk to kids, themed rooms.

🗓️A day here with kids

  1. 8:30

    Breakfast in the garden restaurant

Ground-floor rooms mean you arrive without a lift battle.

  2. 10:00

    Water park opens

Split up: one adult per age zone works better than herding.

  3. 14:00

    Beach and shade

Thirty metres from the room, so naps are actually possible.

  4. 19:00

    Dinner, then early night

Evenings here are calm, which is either the appeal or the drawback.

Splash Mania by age zone

Open daily from ten until sunset, with separate zones so a five-year-old and a fourteen-year-old both get a real park.

Watersports on the bay

Soma Bay is a famous flat-water spot, so a first windsurf or kite lesson here is unusually forgiving for teens.

Low-tide shell hunt

When the water pulls back you can walk out on hard sand for ages, which turns a frustrating tide into the best hour of the day.

👶Great fit

Baby

0 to 1 yr

Ground-floor garden rooms, free cots and a beach thirty metres away make this one of the easiest here with a baby.

🧒Great fit

Toddler

1 to 3 yrs

The 2 to 6 water zone and the endlessly shallow bay are made for this age, though the mini club will not take them yet.

🧑Great fit

Kid

4 to 11 yrs

Their own middle slide zone plus the mini club from five. Solid without being the biggest park on the coast.

🧑‍🎤Great fit

Teen

12 yrs and up

Eight slides reserved for over-twelves and world-class flat water for windsurfing and kiting. Rare to find both.

Parents also ask

How long is the transfer from Hurghada airport?

About 40 minutes by road. It is the longest transfer of the hotels on this page, so if you land late with small children factor that in before booking.

Is the sea too shallow to swim?

At low tide you walk out a long way before it deepens. That is perfect for toddlers, less so for confident swimmers, who tend to use the pools instead.

Can we leave the resort in the evening?

Not on foot. Soma Bay is a private bay with only its own hotels, so an evening out means a taxi to Safaga or Hurghada. Most families simply stay in.
