A grand, established Sheraton on the Soma Bay peninsula that balances a medium-sized water park with one of the best family beaches on the coast: an enormous stretch of white sand where the water is very shallow with no rocks, so children can walk out and still have their feet down. A central pool with a swim-up bar, a children's splash area and a kids club for four to twelves keep the days moving, while the house reef off the same beach is there for snorkelling when you want depth.

Our verdict
A rare resort that pairs a genuinely toddler-safe shallow beach with a proper, if medium, water park. The best all-round family pick in Soma Bay when you want both the sea and some slides.
The rooms
Solid, spacious rooms in a low Moorish-style building set in big grounds, most with a balcony or terrace. Family rooms and connecting doubles both exist, so state which you want at booking and reconfirm on arrival. Cots are free, and the sheer size of the grounds means quiet corners are easy to find with a napping baby.

Parents also ask
Is the beach shallow enough for small children?
Yes. The beach is a large stretch of white sand where the water stays very shallow with no rocks, so children can walk out and keep their feet down. It is one of the few resorts in this guide where the sea itself, not just the pool, works for toddlers.
How big is the water park?
It is a medium-sized park with a children's splash area, included for guests, rather than a mega slide complex. It is plenty for a few happy hours a day, but teens set on a huge slide count will find more in Makadi Bay.
Is there snorkelling for older children?
Yes. The same beach has a house reef offshore that is good for snorkelling once you reach it, so older, confident swimmers get depth and fish while the little ones stay in the shallows closer in. Fins and masks are easy to rent on site.

in Hurghada
Baron Palace Sahl Hasheesh
Large, properly finished rooms and family suites with marble bathrooms and balconies, most facing the gardens or the sea. The family suites give you a separate bedroom with a door that closes, which is the whole reason to pay this much, and several sit within sight of the pools. Cots free.

Rixos Premium Magawish Suites & Villas
Suites and villas rather than plain rooms: most have a separate sitting area, and the villa units give you two bedrooms and a private terrace close to the beach. If you have a baby, ask for a villa on the garden side, where the evening music from the main pool does not carry.
in Hurghada
Steigenberger Al Dau Beach Hotel
Solid, well-kept rooms with proper balconies, many looking over the lagoon and the sea. Family rooms and junior suites take four, and connecting doubles are available for larger groups. Ask for the lagoon side: it is quieter than the road side and you can see the beach from the balcony.
