Dana Beach has been a family workhorse on this coast for years and it still earns its place: five pools with four of them heated in winter, a kids aqua park with seven slides of its own, and a long jetty that walks you straight out over the reef so children can snorkel without a boat. It is a big, busy, slightly worn resort rather than a polished one, and the price reflects that honestly.

The best pound-for-pound family resort in Hurghada in winter, as long as you accept a big, worn, cheerful place rather than a smart one. Book it for the heated kids aqua park and the reef.
The rooms
Bright, simply furnished rooms spread over a very large garden site, most with a balcony. Family rooms take four with two proper beds plus a sofa bed, and connecting doubles exist for five or six. Ask for a block near the kids aqua pool unless you want a ten-minute walk each way with wet children.

Are the pools really heated in winter?
Four of the five are, including the children's aqua pool, and it makes a genuine difference in December and January when the Red Sea itself drops to around 22C.
Can young children snorkel from the jetty?
Yes, with a parent alongside and a buoyancy vest, which the hotel lends. The reef edge drops away quickly, so this is not a place to let a child swim off alone.
How far is it from Hurghada airport?
About 20 to 25 minutes by road, one of the shorter transfers on this coast, which matters a lot after a late flight with small children.
