Melia Zanzibar is the polished all-rounder on the east coast, a big five-star estate that still feels genuinely built for families. The seasonal kids club takes ages 4 to 12 with dedicated staff and a play room right by the pool, and the private-pool villas are among the best rooms on the island for parents of small children. The Kiwengwa beach is classic east coast, with a wide tidal swing, so mornings and pool time carry the day and the sea comes in for a big swim later. The rooms
Melia spans a huge, leafy estate above a long Kiwengwa beach, with a room range that runs from Garden Rooms to one, two and three-bedroom villas, many with a private pool. For families the villas are the star: masses of space, an enclosed garden and a pool of your own where a toddler can splash safely. Cots and highchairs are provided, and the main pool has a shallow children's section. Note that the adults-only areas, The Level and the spa pool, are for guests 16 and over.

It runs seasonally, mainly in busier holiday periods, so confirm the dates for your stay before booking if the club matters to you.
How bad are the tides for swimming?
Kiwengwa is east coast, so the sea retreats a long way at low tide. A private-pool villa or the main pool solves it, and the sea is lovely at high water.
Are children allowed everywhere?
Almost. The Level lounge area and the spa pool are reserved for guests aged 16 and over, but the main pool, beach and restaurants welcome families.
