Le Meridien has one big advantage for families: it owns almost the whole of Relax Bay, a sheltered private beach that stays calmer than the open coast. Behind it stretch two enormous pools, tennis and squash courts, a climbing wall and a free Penguin kids club for ages four to twelve, with plenty to keep active children busy for a week. It is a big, older-school resort rather than a design hotel, and that is exactly why it works so well with children who just want space to run. The private bay also means fewer worries about crowds or traffic.

The rooms
Family rooms and larger suites sleep four, and the sprawling grounds mean it is worth asking for a room near the main pool and the kids club. Cots come free on request, and the resort's own gentle bay is a big reassurance with young paddlers. Interconnecting rooms are available for families who want a door between the kids and the grown-ups.
How the KidProof Score works
Every hotel is rated on eight things families actually care about, then weighted by how much each one drives your choice. Room setup counts the most. The little touches break the ties.
