The luxury address of Soma Bay, and the answer to the biggest Makadi complaint: the beach here is a 400 metre sweep of sand with shallow, calm water that goes out a long way, so this is genuinely a place where toddlers can wade. Add a lazy river winding round the family pool, a dedicated children's pool and the Kimo kids club for four to twelves, and it works beautifully for small children. It is not an aqua park hotel and it is not cheap: you pay for polish, calm and that rare toddler-safe shallow sea.

Our verdict
The best choice on this coast for a baby or toddler thanks to that long shallow beach, wrapped in real luxury and excellent food. Families whose children only want slides should spend the money in Makadi Bay instead.
The rooms
Large, genuinely luxurious rooms and suites, most with a balcony or terrace and many looking straight out to sea. Family configurations run to connecting rooms and larger suites that give parents a separate space, so ask for the layout you want at booking. Cots are free, and the standard of finish and service is a clear step above the all-inclusive crowd.

Parents also ask
Is the beach really safe for toddlers?
Yes, and it is the main reason to choose it. The 400 metre beach is sandy with shallow, calm water that stays wadeable a long way out, which is unusual on this reef-lined coast. It is the standout toddler beach among the resorts in this guide.
Does it have a water park?
No. There is a lazy river around the family pool and a dedicated children's pool, but no aqua park with big slides. If your children come alive for slides, a Makadi Bay resort will suit them better; Kempinski is about the beach, the pools and the calm.
Is it all inclusive?
Not always. Kempinski Soma Bay is frequently sold on bed and breakfast or half board rather than full all inclusive, so check the board basis on your rate and price the upgrade before you book, as it makes a real difference with children.

Baron Palace Sahl Hasheesh
Large, properly finished rooms and family suites with marble bathrooms and balconies, most facing the gardens or the sea. The family suites give you a separate bedroom with a door that closes, which is the whole reason to pay this much, and several sit within sight of the pools. Cots free.

Rixos Premium Magawish Suites & Villas
Suites and villas rather than plain rooms: most have a separate sitting area, and the villa units give you two bedrooms and a private terrace close to the beach. If you have a baby, ask for a villa on the garden side, where the evening music from the main pool does not carry.
in Hurghada
Steigenberger Al Dau Beach Hotel
Solid, well-kept rooms with proper balconies, many looking over the lagoon and the sea. Family rooms and junior suites take four, and connecting doubles are available for larger groups. Ask for the lagoon side: it is quieter than the road side and you can see the beach from the balcony.
