If your children measure a holiday in slides, this is the Istrian answer. Katoro has a 1,410 square metre interactive aquapark, a cascading family pool complex, a separate splash pool for the smallest, an indoor pool for grey mornings, and a slide tower added for the 2026 season. The Pepi clubs start at eight months, which almost nobody else does. It is not a design hotel, the buffet is functional rather than memorable, and the shoreline is concrete platforms and rock rather than sand, but for pure water time per euro nothing in Istria comes close.

Our verdict
The obvious choice if the pool complex is the point of the trip and you have children under six. Book a Premium room for the balcony, and eat out in Umag twice.
The rooms
291 rooms in the hotel over four floors, from Classic up to Junior Suite, plus 198 more in the neighbouring Residence for families who want a kitchenette. Family categories take four, and the Premium rooms are the ones with real balcony space.

Is it right for your kids?
Baby
0 to 1 yr
The eight month starting age for Pepi Club Baby is the reason to come, and the site is flat for prams.
Toddler
1 to 3 yrs
The 200 square metre splash pool and the soft play room are pitched exactly at this age.
Kid
4 to 11 yrs
Slides, trampolines and a full club programme, they will not ask what to do next.
Teen
12 yrs and up
The new slide tower helps, but teens will want the bikes and the town rather than the club.

Parents also ask
Is there sand anywhere nearby?
Not really. Katoro is concrete platforms and rock with ladders. The nearest true sand in Istria is Bijeca beach at Medulin, right at the other end of the peninsula.
Which room should we book with two kids?
A Superior or Premium in the hotel if you want the balcony and full board on site, or a Residence unit if a kitchenette and a bit more space matter more than daily service.
Is the aquapark included in the room rate?
Yes, the pool and aquapark complex is for hotel and residence guests, with loungers and parasols included. Some activity extras are charged separately.

Family Hotel Amarin by Maistra Select
276 rooms and four suites in eight layouts, from 28 to 74 square metres. A lot of them connect through a door, which is the single most useful thing here for a family of four or five, and rollaway beds are standard rather than a fight.

Isabella Island Resort, Valamar Collection
A spread of hotel rooms, suites, apartments and seafront villas across one small island, so you can pick the size that fits. Family rooms and suites take four to five, several villas have separate bedrooms and a kitchen, and connecting rooms exist if you ask early.

Girandella Resort, Valamar Collection
The family wing has rooms for four plus one with balconies, most facing the bay, plus larger Maro suites. Rooms are recent and well insulated, which matters because the resort runs late entertainment in summer.
