The Concorde Moreen wraps around Abu Dabab Bay in wide green gardens, with 800 metres of white sand and four pools, two of them for children and one heated for winter. It is a calm, comfortable all-inclusive that gets the family basics right: shade, space, a kids club and shallow pools right by the rooms. The reef is reached from a private jetty where dolphins sometimes pass, so the serious snorkelling is off the pier rather than off the sand, which is worth knowing before you picture a long shallow wade.

Our verdict
A calm, green, comfortable all-inclusive with unusually good pool provision for little ones. Best for families whose youngest will live in the shallow kids pools, with the jetty reef as the snorkelling for older children.
The rooms
Spacious rooms in low buildings set in lush gardens, most with a balcony or terrace, and a genuine sense of green and space around them. Family rooms take two adults and two children, and connecting doubles help larger groups. There are two children's pools among the four, one heated in winter, so the little ones are well served close to the rooms. Cots are free on request.

Parents also ask
Is there a shallow pool for a baby?
Yes, this is a strength here. Of the four pools, two are children's pools, and one of them is heated in winter, which is exactly what you want with a baby in January. They sit close to the rooms, so a cool-off and a nappy change never involve a long walk.
Can toddlers swim in the sea safely?
They can paddle at the sandy shore, but the real swimming and snorkelling here is off the jetty, where the reef drops away, so it is not a long shallow sandy bay of the kind toddlers love best. Keep the youngest to the shoreline and the kids pools, and use the jetty reef for children old enough to snorkel with an adult.

Jaz Maraya Resort
Modern, spacious family rooms designed for two adults and two children, most with a balcony and a bathtub, which is a real plus with little ones. The layout is genuinely built for families rather than retrofitted, and the newer feel shows in the finishes. Cots are free but should be requested at booking, and a handful of rooms connect if you need more space.

Hilton Marsa Alam Nubian Resort
Large, Nubian-styled rooms in low terraced blocks stepping down towards the sea, most with a balcony or terrace and enough room for a cot without moving furniture. Family rooms and connecting options work for four, and the resort is big enough that it pays to ask for a room near the pools and the kids club rather than at the far end. Cots are free on request.
