Location is the whole story here. You step out of the door onto the Bardolino promenade, with the lake on one side and gelaterias, pizzerias and the evening passeggiata on the other. There is a pool, a small lakeside garden and a kids club, but the real luxury is not needing the car for six days out of seven, which with young children is worth a great deal.

Pick this if you want an Italian lake town holiday rather than a resort holiday. Ask for a rear-facing room if your children are light sleepers.

Is it noisy at night?
The promenade is busy until around midnight in July and August. Rooms at the back are noticeably quieter.
Can we swim from the hotel?
Yes, from the lakeside garden over pebbles and a jetty. Water shoes make it far more pleasant for children.
Do we need a car?
Not for daily life. You will want one or a bus for Gardaland and Verona, but parking in Bardolino is limited and paid.
