Menfi Beach Resort

- Teen
Menfi is Sicily's quiet corner, a wine town on the south-west coast surrounded by vineyards and olive hills, and this 4-star village is the family option in it. Two outdoor pools plus a children's pool, an indoor pool, a Mini Club and a Junior Club with their own programmes, a games room, and the full Italian entertainment repertoire from group dance classes to cabaret to piano bar. The Blue Flag beach is about 500 metres away, reachable on foot or by shuttle, and Blue Flag on the south coast means sand and clean, calm water. What Menfi gives you that CefalΓΉ and Taormina cannot is emptiness: this coast is not on the coach route, the beaches in August are not a fight, and a week here costs what three nights costs elsewhere. What it takes is driving. Palermo airport is around ninety minutes and there is nothing you will do without a car.
Our verdict
The budget pick, and a good one if you want empty beaches and do not mind a plain room. Take the car, take two weeks, and spend the difference on Agrigento and Selinunte.
The rooms
242 rooms in a village layout, each with a balcony or a door onto the garden. Everything is air-conditioned and equipped with the basics: TV, minibar, safe, hair dryer. Nothing here is designed, it is provisioned, and for the price that is a fair deal. Family rooms and connecting arrangements are easy to get. Ask for a garden-level room if you have small children, because being able to open a door onto grass is worth more than a view here.

Why families love it
- Blue Flag sandy beach about 500 m away, on foot or by shuttle
- Mini Club and Junior Club with dedicated programmes, plus a games room
- Two outdoor pools, a children's pool and an indoor pool for grey days
- Vineyards and olive hills all round, and Selinunte's temples 30 minutes away
ποΈA day here with kids
- 8:30
Breakfast, then walk down
Five hundred metres in the cool of the morning is a pleasure.
- 12:30
Shuttle back for lunch
Let the bus do the uphill leg with the sandy bags.
- 15:00
Mini Club and the kids pool
Shaded, shallow, and enough to buy you two hours.
- 18:00
Drive into Menfi for a granita
A real Sicilian wine town with no tourists in it. Ten minutes away.
Family things to do nearby
Selinunte archaeological park
Greek temples in a field above the sea, thirty minutes away and half empty. Children can run between the columns, which is not allowed anywhere famous.
Lido Fiori sand
Wide, sandy, shallow and empty by Sicilian standards. This is the reason to accept the plain rooms.
Evening entertainment
Cabaret, dance classes, piano bar. Very Italian, slightly bewildering, and children join in without being asked twice.
Is it right for your kids?
Baby
0 to 1 yr
Workable but bare. There is no baby club and no baby kitchen, but garden-level rooms and a quiet site help. If you have an infant, Athena or the Grand Palladium are better equipped.
Toddler
1 to 3 yrs
The children's pool and the shallow Blue Flag sand carry this age well. The 500 m to the beach is the daily negotiation, so use the shuttle one way.
Kid
4 to 11 yrs
Mini Club, games room, pools and a beach with room to build things. Selinunte and Agrigento's temples are close enough to make a rainy plan unnecessary.
Teen
12 yrs and up
The Junior Club and the entertainment help, but Menfi is a quiet wine town and this is a quiet coast. Fine with a car and a plan, dull without one.

Parents also ask
Can we walk to the beach?
Yes, it is about 500 metres, and there is also a shuttle. Most families walk down in the morning and take the shuttle back when everyone is tired and covered in sand.
Which airport?
Palermo, about ninety minutes by car. Trapani is a similar distance. Catania is far too far, so check your flights against the right airport before booking.
Is it worth it in September?
September is the best month here. The sea on the south coast stays warm into October, the beach empties completely, and the prices fall. The indoor pool covers the odd grey afternoon.
Similar family stays

in Sicily
Verdura Resort
203 rooms and suites, all with a sea view and all on one or two low floors spread through 230 hectares of countryside, so you never queue for a lift with a pushchair. Families mostly land in the Junior Suites or the communicating doubles, and the layout (terrace, then lawn, then sea) means a sleeping baby is never far from where you are sitting. The trade-off is walking: your room can be a genuine ten minutes from the kids club, and the resort buggies are the difference between charmed and exhausted.

in Sicily
Grand Palladium Sicilia Resort & Spa
Low blocks scattered through a 10-hectare park, which means shade, lawns and a walk to breakfast rather than a tower and a lift. Family rooms and connecting options are standard here rather than a scarce upgrade, so four in one booking is normal. Furnishings are resort-practical, not boutique. The rooms nearest the beach are the quietest, the ones nearest the main pool are the most convenient, and you cannot have both.

in Sicily
Mangia's Brucoli, Sicily, Autograph Collection
402 rooms across a large seafront estate, refurbished into the Autograph Collection but still, at heart, the Italian holiday village it has always been. Family rooms and adjoining pairs are plentiful, which is the whole reason to look here: four of you fit without a second booking, and the resort openly discounts a second room. Expect functional rather than designer, and ask for something away from the entertainment stage unless your children sleep through anything.
