Verdura is the one Sicilian address where the children's club is not an afterthought bolted onto a spa hotel: Verdùland is a 450 m² building of its own, with a science lab, a craft room, a proper kitchen for cooking classes and its own heated outdoor pool, and it takes children from babies right up to 16. It is included in the rate, which at this price level is rarer than it should be. Around it sits a Rocco Forte resort of golf courses, a 60 m infinity pool and nearly 2 km of private coastline on the quiet south coast near Sciacca. The honest caveat: this is countryside, not a town. You are 90 minutes from Palermo airport and there is no village to wander to after dinner, so the resort has to be the holiday. For most families that book it, that is exactly the point.

Our verdict

The best kids club in Sicily, attached to a resort that would be worth the trip without it. Book it if you want the children genuinely looked after and you are happy to stay put for a week.

🛏️

The rooms

203 rooms and suites, all with a sea view and all on one or two low floors spread through 230 hectares of countryside, so you never queue for a lift with a pushchair. Families mostly land in the Junior Suites or the communicating doubles, and the layout (terrace, then lawn, then sea) means a sleeping baby is never far from where you are sitting. The trade-off is walking: your room can be a genuine ten minutes from the kids club, and the resort buggies are the difference between charmed and exhausted.

    Breakfast on the terrace

Granita and brioche for them, espresso and a sea view for you.

  2. 9:30

    Drop-off at Verdùland

Sign in once, then they move between the lab, the craft room and their pool.

Shaded tables, and nobody minds wet swimsuits on the chairs.

  4. 17:30

    Down to the sea platforms

Verdùland science lab

Volcano experiments and slime, run by staff who clearly like children. The 6 to 11 year olds ask to go back after dinner.

Full-size pitch and coaching sessions. The one activity that reliably drags a 13-year-old out of the room.

Cooking class in the kids kitchen

Cannoli and pizza dough in Verdùland's own kitchen. They come back floury and very pleased with themselves.

👶Great fit

Baby

0 to 1 yr

Verdùland takes babies, which almost nothing else at this level in Sicily does. Ground-floor rooms with lawn access make naps and pushchairs easy. The rocky shore is not a baby paddling spot, so plan around the pools.

🧒Great fit

Toddler

1 to 3 yrs

The heated kids pool at the club is the winner here: shallow, shaded and away from the big pool. Distances across the estate are the real issue, so use the buggies without guilt.

🧑Great fit

Kid

4 to 11 yrs

The sweet spot. Science lab, football, tennis, golf lessons and a pool they can swim lengths in. Six to eleven year olds tend to disappear into the club and reappear at mealtimes.

🧑‍🎤Great fit

Teen

12 yrs and up

Verdùland runs a teen section up to 16 with games and its own space, and the sports offer is strong. There is no nightlife and no town within walking distance, which suits some 15-year-olds and bores others.

Parents also ask

Is the kids club really included?

Yes. Verdùland is free of charge for resort guests across its age groups. Some add-ons like private golf or tennis coaching are paid separately.

Do we need a hire car?

Not to stay put, and plenty of families never leave. But Agrigento's temples and Sciacca itself are worth a day, and there is no useful public transport, so a car helps.

Is there a sandy beach?

No. The private coastline is rock and shingle with wooden platforms and ladders into deep water. Bring water shoes and treat the pools as the family swimming.

Grand Palladium Sicilia Resort & Spa

Low blocks scattered through a 10-hectare park, which means shade, lawns and a walk to breakfast rather than a tower and a lift. Family rooms and connecting options are standard here rather than a scarce upgrade, so four in one booking is normal. Furnishings are resort-practical, not boutique. The rooms nearest the beach are the quietest, the ones nearest the main pool are the most convenient, and you cannot have both.

Mangia's Brucoli, Sicily, Autograph Collection

402 rooms across a large seafront estate, refurbished into the Autograph Collection but still, at heart, the Italian holiday village it has always been. Family rooms and adjoining pairs are plentiful, which is the whole reason to look here: four of you fit without a second booking, and the resort openly discounts a second room. Expect functional rather than designer, and ask for something away from the entertainment stage unless your children sleep through anything.

Mazzarò Sea Palace

in Sicily

Mazzarò Sea Palace

82 rooms, most with a balcony or terrace over the Bay of Mazzarò, and the view really is the product. Family configurations exist (triples, connecting doubles, suites) but they are limited and they sell out first, so a family of four booking in June will be looking at two rooms. Everything is stacked on a slope above the beach, so lifts and stairs are part of daily life.
