La Manga Club is the region's big premium resort, a huge estate of golf, tennis, football pitches and pools set in the hills just above the lagoon. For families it is a proper activity playground: supervised kids clubs, junior academies in golf, tennis and football, a climbing wall, crazy golf and go-karts, ideal for energetic kids and teens. It is not a toddler-on-the-beach hotel, the shallow lagoon beaches are a short drive or shuttle away, but for a sporty family holiday with facilities for every age, nothing else here comes close.

Our verdict
The one for active families with older kids or a broad age range. Less about toddler paddling, all about filling busy days with sport and space, then driving down to the shallow lagoon when you want the beach.
The rooms
A vast resort estate above the Mar Menor with hotel rooms, apartments and villas, many with their own kitchen and pool. Family accommodation is generous and the self-catering options suit longer stays, though the layout is spread out and a car or the resort shuttle helps.

Parents also ask
Is La Manga Club on the beach?
No, the resort sits in the hills above the coast. It runs a shuttle and has its own beach club, and the shallow Mar Menor lagoon beaches are a short drive down, so a hire car is handy.
Is it worth it with very young children?
It can be, especially if you book an apartment or villa with its own pool, but toddlers get less from the sports facilities, so families chasing shallow-beach days often prefer a lagoon-front town hotel.
Are the kids clubs included?
Some supervised club sessions are included at times, but the junior golf, tennis and football academies and many activities are paid extras, so budget for them if the kids want to join in.

525 Hotel
A smart, modern four-star in the heart of Los Alcázares with well-appointed rooms, some with connecting options for families. A short walk brings you to the wide, shallow Los Narejos beach, one of the gentlest stretches on the whole lagoon for small children.

Hotel Izán Cavanna
Simple, bright rooms, most with a balcony and a view over the lagoon or the pool. Family rooms sleep up to four, and the hotel sits on the narrow strip of land with the calm Mar Menor on one side and the open sea on the other, so you are never more than a couple of minutes from shallow water.

AluaSun Doblemar
The biggest resort in La Manga, with plenty of family rooms, many looking straight over the lagoon. Rooms are comfortable and practical rather than boutique, and half-board or all-inclusive boards make it an easy, budget-friendly base for a week with young children.
