This is the classic Mar Menor family hotel: a big, friendly, no-frills place right on the calm lagoon side of La Manga. The water in front is warm, clear and so shallow you can walk a toddler out a long way with the surface still around their knees. There is a children's pool, a kids club and evening shows in the main hall, and the sandy Mediterranean beach is a two-minute stroll across the strip when you fancy a change. It is not luxurious, it is easy, and for parents of very young children that is exactly the point.

Our verdict
For a first beach holiday with a baby or toddler, few spots in Europe beat wading into knee-deep, bath-warm water straight in front of your hotel. Cavanna trades polish for exactly that.
The rooms
Simple, bright rooms, most with a balcony and a view over the lagoon or the pool. Family rooms sleep up to four, and the hotel sits on the narrow strip of land with the calm Mar Menor on one side and the open sea on the other, so you are never more than a couple of minutes from shallow water.

Parents also ask
How shallow is the lagoon in front of the hotel?
Very. The Mar Menor is famously shallow and calm, so you can walk a small child a long way out with the water still around their knees or waist, and there are no waves to knock them over.
Is there sand or is it a rocky shore?
Both seas here are sandy. The lagoon shore is gentle and soft for paddling, and the open-sea beach on the other side of the strip has proper sand for digging.
Is the kids club really free?
Yes, the mini club and the evening entertainment are included for guests during the main season, with a playground on site too.
