Explorers is the partner hotel families rave about, a pirate-and-explorer fantasy built around a huge indoor water playground with heated pools, three water slides and a stranded pirate ship. Add a multi-level indoor playground, ball pools, a games room and a 6D cinema, and it is a destination in itself for a rainy day off the parks. It sits in Magny-le-Hongre with a free shuttle to the gates, so you trade the on-site walk and Extra Magic Time for a lot more to do at the hotel and a much lower price.

Our verdict
The best partner hotel for young families and toddlers: a water playground and family rooms that turn the hotel itself into part of the holiday, at a price that leaves more in the pot for park tickets.
The rooms
Family rooms are the whole point here, sleeping up to ten in some configurations, with bunk areas and separate kids' zones that little ones love. Cots are available and the layouts are built for families rather than couples, so a big group or two sets of siblings fit comfortably.

How the KidProof Score works
Every hotel is rated on eight things families actually care about, then weighted by how much each one drives your choice. Room setup counts the most. The little touches break the ties.

Parents also ask
Do we get Extra Magic Time at Explorers?
No. Extra Magic Time is only for guests of the on-site Disney hotels. Explorers is a partner hotel, so you enter the parks at the normal opening time, but you pay a lot less and get far more to do at the hotel.
Is it good for toddlers and young children?
Very. The heated indoor water playground, ball pools and multi-level soft play are made for young children, and the big family rooms give everyone space, which makes it one of the easiest bases with little ones.
How do we get to the parks?
A free shuttle runs between the hotel and the parks. It is a short ride, but you are on its timetable, so check the first and last shuttle times and allow for queues at peak departure moments.

Disney Hotel New York, The Art of Marvel
Superior family rooms sleep up to four and connecting rooms are available for larger groups, with premium bedding, a cot on request and space for a pram. The rooms are the smartest on the resort, dressed in a slick New York style, and the sound-proofing means a baby can nap while older kids are still buzzing about Iron Man.

in Disneyland Paris
Disney Newport Bay Club
Superior rooms sleep up to four, with family rooms, lake-view rooms and terrace options, plus cots on request. This is a big hotel with over a thousand rooms, so ask for a room near the lifts if you have a pram and a lot of floors between you and the pool.

in Disneyland Paris
Disney Sequoia Lodge
Standard rooms sleep four with two double beds, decorated with woodland creatures from Bambi, and cots are available on request. Rooms are spread across several lodges in the grounds, so if you have a pram it is worth asking for the main building to cut down on outdoor walks in the rain.
