The Courtyard by Marriott is the value family choice in Seminyak, Bali's most fashionable beach town. It trades big-resort extras for a genuinely useful package: a lovely three-tier lagoon pool that winds through the grounds, a children's pool beside the kids club, and daily activities from kids yoga to Balinese dance. It sits a short walk from Seminyak's beach, boutiques and famous restaurants, so you get a real neighbourhood rather than an isolated compound. The kids club gives two free hours a day, and for the price this is one of the best-value family bases on the island.

Our verdict
The smart-value family base in fashionable Seminyak: a fun lagoon pool and a walkable town, for a fraction of the flagship prices.
The rooms
The Courtyard keeps costs down without cramping families. Deluxe and Deluxe Pool View rooms are generously sized with private balconies, and a connecting room is available on request, which is the smart move for parents who want a door to close at bedtime. Rooms take a cot easily and children stay free in existing bedding on many rates. The lagoon pool winds right through the resort, so most rooms are only a short stroll from the water, and the flat, central Seminyak setting is easy with a buggy.

Parents also ask
Is the kids club free?
Guests get the first two hours a day free at the kids club for ages 4 to 12, and under-fours can join accompanied by an adult, with extra hours charged.
Is it on the beach?
No, it is a short walk from Seminyak beach, which many families prefer as the beach has surf and rips, so pool swimming is safer for young children anyway.
Is Seminyak too lively for a family?
It is Bali's most fashionable town, busy in the evenings, but the resort is a calm base and its central spot means great restaurants and shops are all within an easy walk.

in Bali
Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay
This is a resort of private villas, not rooms, and that changes everything with children. Each of the 147 Balinese villas has its own walled garden and plunge pool, so bath time, naps and toddler meltdowns all happen behind your own gate. One, two and three-bedroom layouts scale from a couple with a baby to three generations together, and family villas sit steps from the playground and pools. Cots and babysitting are complimentary, children under twelve stay free and under-fives eat free, which softens the sting of the price.

The Mulia, Mulia Resort & Villas
Everything here is oversized, and that works in a family's favour. Even entry-level suites run to 130 sqm with a separate living area and space for two adults and two children under twelve, so no one is climbing over a suitcase. Ocean-facing suites put the calm Geger Beach lagoon a lift ride away, and the villas add private pools and multiple bedrooms for larger groups. Cots come free on request, and the sheer size of the rooms makes early bedtimes and toddler naps far less of a battle.

Grand Hyatt Bali
Set in a village of Balinese-style low-rise blocks around tropical gardens, the Grand Hyatt has room types that suit every family shape. Standard rooms take a cot easily, and the connecting rooms and themed family suites are the pick with two or more children: the ocean-themed kids room comes with shell-shaped twin beds and its own mermaid bathroom, joined to a parents' room next door. Ground-floor garden rooms cut out the stairs with a buggy, and the calm lagoon beach is a short stroll through the gardens.
