Bella Italia Village

The big family village on the southern shore, and the reason so many families do Lake Garda cheaply and happily. Several pool areas with slides, a lagoon-style pool, direct lake frontage, sports pitches, a kids club and a nightly entertainment programme, all within walking or cycling distance of Peschiera's Venetian walls and train station. It is busy, it is loud in August and it is not remotely stylish, but children adore it and the price leaves room for Gardaland tickets.

Our verdict
Best value on the lake for families with children between four and twelve who measure a holiday in slides. Book June or September if noise bothers you.
The rooms
Mobile homes, bungalows and simple apartments spread across a large lakeside village, all with a kitchen and most with a small terrace. Space is tight and finishes are basic, but you get your own front door, outdoor table and independence.

Is it right for your kids?
Baby
0 to 1 yr
Possible with a kitchen and a cot, but the noise, the pebbles and the small mobile homes make this a hard week with a baby.
Toddler
1 to 3 yrs
Shallow pool sections and plenty of flat paths. Keep the lake side supervised, the shore drops away quickly in places.
Kid
4 to 11 yrs
The sweet spot. Slides, bikes, football, kids club and a hundred other children to run with.
Teen
12 yrs and up
Works better than you would think, thanks to the sports pitches and the freedom to cycle into Peschiera.

Parents also ask
Is it a campsite or a hotel?
It is a holiday village: mobile homes, bungalows and apartments with hotel-style facilities. Expect campsite comfort and resort-level water play.
When is it quietest?
Late May, June and September. July and August are full, hot and very lively, which some families love and others regret.
Can we reach Gardaland without a car?
Yes, a free shuttle bus runs from Peschiera train station to the park in season, and the station is a short ride or walk away.
