Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie is the loveliest place to stay on La Digue, the tiny, car-free island where you get around by bike and ox-cart and the beaches look unreal. The resort itself is a lush hillside garden of Creole villas with a beautiful pool and a good buffet that children like. It has no kids club and some steep paths, so it suits families with school-age children more than toddlers. What you come for is the island: the world-famous Anse Source d'Argent is a short cycle away, and giant tortoises roam nearby.
The rooms
Orangeraie is a garden of villas climbing a hillside on car-free La Digue. Families are best in the flatter Garden Villas or a Garden Suite Residence, and the Villa de Charme offers connecting rooms for larger groups. There is no kids club, so the villas are your base for downtime. With a deep unfenced pool and steep paths, the resort recommends a ground-level villa without a balcony for children under six.
