Forte Village is the big one: a gated 120 acre resort on the quiet south coast that is really a small town built for families. There is a proper water park with slides, a lagoon of thalasso seawater pools, sports academies (Chelsea football, tennis, rugby) run by real coaches, and kids clubs from babies up to teens. It is expensive and it is a lot, but for many families it is a once in a childhood holiday where nobody is ever bored.

Our verdict
The blockbuster family resort of Sardinia, worth it if you want everything on tap and can stomach the price. Book one of the mid hotels like Le Palme, budget for a couple of paid academies, and let the kids fill their own days.
The rooms
One resort, several separate hotels sharing the grounds, from the more relaxed Il Villaggio and Le Palme up to the top-end Castello and the private Hotel Pineta. Family rooms and communicating rooms are widely available, so most configurations for two adults and two or three children are covered. Pick your hotel first, because it decides your price, your pool and how far you walk to the beach.

Is the water park included?
Yes, access to the Acquapark is included for resort guests. The go-karting and some academy sports carry extra charges.
Which hotel should families pick?
Le Palme and Il Villaggio are the more relaxed, family-friendly choices; Il Castello is the premium option. All share the same facilities.
Do you need a car?

Hotel Cala di Volpe, a Luxury Collection Hotel
An icon of Costa Smeralda designed to look like a Mediterranean fishing village, with rooms and suites full of terracotta, timber and handmade tiles. Connecting rooms and larger suites work for families, but this is a grown-up luxury hotel first: there is no wall-to-wall family kit, and the family offering sits alongside a very adult scene.

Almar Timi Ama Resort & Spa
Low buildings set in Mediterranean gardens between a flamingo lagoon and one of Villasimius' best white-sand beaches. Family rooms and communicating rooms cover two adults plus two children comfortably, and the ground-floor garden rooms are handy with a buggy and toddlers who nap.
