The long, flat, shallow sandy beach that Europe's families grew up on
🏖️Rimini & the Adriatic Riviera
Italia
Actualizado el 1 July 2026
Rimini and the Adriatic Riviera of Emilia-Romagna are the mainstream Italian and German family beach coast, and for good reason. The beach runs for kilometres in soft golden sand that shelves so gently you can walk a child far out into flat, warm, barely-there waves, which makes it one of the safest first-swim seas in Europe for babies and toddlers. Attended beach clubs, the bagni, line the whole shore with umbrellas, loungers and lifeguards, while a string of dedicated Family Hotels lay on baby clubs, nannies from eight months and baby food. Add Italy's biggest water park at Aquafan Riccione, the Beach Village, and theme parks like Mirabilandia and Italia in Miniatura, and you have a coast built around keeping children happy at excellent value.

Los padres también preguntan
Is the Rimini beach really good for babies and toddlers?
Yes. The sand is soft and flat and the sea shelves so gradually that little ones can walk out a long way in shallow, warm, almost wave-free water, which is exactly what makes this coast a family favourite.
Is the beach free or do you pay?
Most of the beach is organised into bagni, attended beach clubs where you pay for an umbrella and two loungers by the day or week. It buys you lifeguards, clean facilities and often a play area, and many family hotels include the beach service.
When should we avoid the crowds?
August is peak: the beaches, roads and prices are all at their busiest, especially around Ferragosto in mid-August. June and September are warm, cheaper and far calmer, which suits families with young children best.
Which airport do we fly into?
Rimini has its own small airport with seasonal flights, but many families fly into Bologna, about 90 minutes away by car or train, which has far more routes and connects easily to the whole coast.
