Red Sea Corniche, a UNESCO old town and easy winter warmth

🌊Jeddah

Saudi Arabia

Actualizado el 1 July 2026

Jeddah is Saudi Arabia's warm, laid-back Red Sea city, and its long Corniche is the heart of family life here, a seafront promenade of playgrounds, open-air art and the towering King Fahd's Fountain that lights up every night. The historic quarter of Al-Balad, a UNESCO World Heritage site of coral-stone houses and shaded lanes, is a gentle evening wander with older children, and the Fakieh Aquarium is the reliable cool-day outing with dolphin shows and touch tanks. What works with children is the walkable, relaxed seafront, the abundance of family-friendly hotels with good pools, and the sense that the whole city is set up for family evenings out. What does not work quite so well is the beach: the city seafront is a promenade rather than a swimming shore, so beach days mean a resort or a drive north to Obhur Bay, and the summer heat and humidity from June to September are genuinely fierce. Plan around the cooler mornings and evenings and October-to-April months, and Jeddah is a warm, welcoming and surprisingly easy family city break.

Los padres también preguntan

Can we swim in the sea in Jeddah?

Not from the city Corniche, which is a promenade rather than a swimming beach. For sea swimming you either use a hotel with private beach access, such as the Jeddah Hilton, or drive north to the Obhur Bay beach resorts, where the water is clearer and calmer. In the city itself, swimming happens in the hotel pools.

When is the best time to visit with children?

October to April is the family season, with warm, pleasant days and comfortable evenings for the Corniche and sightseeing. The summer, from June to September, brings fierce heat and high humidity, so it works mainly as an indoor and hotel-pool holiday, ideally in hotels with temperature-controlled indoor pools.

Is Jeddah family-friendly and easy to get around?

Yes, it is a relaxed, welcoming city where families are out on the Corniche late into the evening, and it is conservative but very easy with children. There is no metro, so you get around by taxi or ride-hailing app and, for the north beaches, by car; taxis do not carry child seats, so bring a travel booster if you use one.

Do we need to worry about local customs with kids?

Not really, beyond a little planning: dress modestly in public and malls, expect hotel pools and spas to often be gender-segregated in the local way, and note the city is alcohol-free. During Ramadan, daytime eating in public is limited, though hotels carry on as usual. Families are made very welcome, and children are genuinely doted on.
