Winter sun and family resorts in Thailand

🐘Phuket

Thailand

Atualizado a 1 July 2026

Phuket is one of the easiest long-haul beach holidays to do with children, especially from November to April when Europe is cold and grey and the island turns on reliable dry-season sun. The choice of family resorts is huge, with free kids clubs, water parks and pools almost everywhere, and prices that still feel gentle once you land. Calm, gently shelving beaches like Mai Khao, Bang Tao and Kata suit little paddlers, while busy Patong keeps everything close if you would rather have the action on your doorstep. Off the sand there is plenty to fill a fortnight: ethical elephant sanctuaries, the pretty Sino-Portuguese Old Town, boat trips to islands and a couple of proper water parks. The sea is warm and shallow through the dry season, around 28 to 29 degrees, so first swims are a joy. The honest caveat is the monsoon from May to October, when the west-coast surf turns rough, rip currents are dangerous and red flags go up, so time a beach-swimming trip for the dry months. Flights from Europe run about eleven to twelve hours direct, with plenty of one-stop options, and the seven-hour time difference means a day or two of early mornings while small bodies adjust.

Porque funciona com crianças

  • Warm, shallow, gently shelving beaches like Mai Khao, Bang Tao and Kata for first swims
  • A huge choice of resorts with free kids clubs, pools and water parks
  • Reliable winter sun from November to April when Europe is cold
  • Exciting easy day trips: elephant sanctuaries, islands and water parks
  • Great-value dining and a famously warm Thai welcome for children

As melhores zonas para ficar

  1. 1Mai Khao in the north: a long, quiet beach with big luxe family resorts, minutes from the airport
  2. 2Bang Tao and Laguna: a gated resort enclave around a lagoon, calm beach and strong kids clubs
  3. 3Karon and Kata: classic wide family beaches with resorts, restaurants and water parks
  4. 4Patong: the liveliest and most convenient base, but loud with a full-on nightlife, so pick a resort set back from the strip
  5. 5How to choose: north and west for calm and space, Patong for buzz and value, and avoid the May to October surf if beach swimming is the point

Os pais também perguntam

When is the best time to visit Phuket with kids?

The dry season from November to April brings the most reliable sun and the calmest sea, ideal for families. The May to October monsoon is cheaper and often still sunny in the mornings, but the west-coast surf turns rough and swimming can be unsafe.

Which area is best for young children?

For calm and space, choose Mai Khao, Bang Tao or Kata, where the beaches shelve gently and the resorts are built around families. Patong is livelier and more convenient but loud, so pick a resort set back from the nightlife.

Is the sea safe for children?

In the dry season the west-coast beaches are usually warm, shallow and calm. From May to October rip currents are strong and dangerous, and drownings happen every year when swimmers ignore the red flags, so always obey the flags and keep children close.

How do we get around the island?

Metered taxis are scarce and tuk-tuks are pricey, so most families use the Grab app for fair, fixed fares, or arrange a car and driver for day trips. Resort shuttles cover short hops in some areas.

Any health or jet lag tips with kids?

No vaccines are required for a standard resort holiday, but check routine jabs and pack insect repellent, high-factor sun cream and rehydration sachets. Drink bottled or filtered water only. The seven-hour time difference usually settles within a couple of days of early mornings.
