Plaka is the beach parents dream about: four kilometres of fine, pale sand that shelves so slowly a toddler can walk out an astonishing distance and still be barely wet. Ammothines sits just behind it, a small Cycladic suites hotel with a pretty garden pool and family-sized maisonettes. It is quieter and greener than the town beaches, you will want a car for the supermarket run, but for a gentle week of sandcastles and shallow paddling it is hard to beat.

Why is Plaka good for toddlers?
Plaka is long, wide and shelves extremely gently, so the water stays shallow a long way out and there is endless soft sand, which makes it one of the safest beaches on Naxos for very small children.
Do we need a car?
It helps. Plaka is away from the main town, so a hire car makes supermarket runs, wider dining choice and day trips much easier than relying on the bus.
