The Seychelles feels like a different kind of tropical holiday from the Maldives. Instead of one resort marooned on a tiny sand island, these are real granite-and-jungle islands you can explore, with villages, restaurants, nature reserves and roads to wander. You fly straight into Mahe, then reach the other islands by a quick domestic flight or a scheduled ferry, so there is no seaplane to wrangle. Children are welcome everywhere, the bays are warm, shallow and calm, and giant Aldabra tortoises wander freely on several islands. Toddlers tend to find it easier than the Maldives because there is more to do off the resort, from beach-hopping by bike on La Digue to a boat trip in a marine park. It is not a budget destination, and moving between islands means a short ferry or a domestic hop, so plan those legs in advance. But for families who want beaches and adventure in one trip, few places do both so well. Best of all, the Seychelles is malaria-free, which takes a real worry off the table with young children.

Lemuria is all suites and villas, and families spread out in a Junior Suite with an extra bed or, better, a two-bedroom Villa with a private pool and space for everyone. Cots are free and the resort is used to babies. Buggies ferry you around the hilly, green estate, and the three beaches include the famous Anse Georgette. The children's pool and playground sit near the kids club.

Raffles Seychelles
Every room at Raffles is a private villa, and many have their own pool, which is a huge win with a napping toddler or an early bedtime. One and two-bedroom Pool Villas suit families, and up to five children thirteen and under stay free using existing bedding, which softens the cost. A creche looks after younger children while the Sugar Palm Kids' Club takes ages four and up. Cots and baby kit come on request.

Constance Ephelia
Ephelia spreads over 120 hectares with two beaches, so there is a lot of choice for families. The 17 Family Villas have two bedrooms and a private plunge pool, ideal when a toddler needs a dark room for naps, while Junior and Senior Suites handle a family of three or four. Cots are free on request and connecting options are easy to arrange. A shuttle buggy runs around the grounds, which helps because the estate is large.

Rooms are large and most have a balcony or terrace facing the bay. Families usually take a Garden or Sea View room with an extra bed, or connecting rooms for more space, and the resort sleeps children easily with free cots. Le Domaine de L'Orangeraie Resort & Spa
Orangeraie is a garden of villas climbing a hillside on car-free La Digue. Families are best in the flatter Garden Villas or a Garden Suite Residence, and the Villa de Charme offers connecting rooms for larger groups. Which island is best for young children?
Mahe is the easiest with toddlers: it has the airport, so no extra ferry, plus the calm beach at Beau Vallon and the widest choice of family resorts. Praslin is a close second and pairs well with a day trip to La Digue.
Is the Seychelles malaria-free?
Yes, the Seychelles is malaria-free, so no antimalarial tablets are needed, which is a real plus with children. Standard sun and mosquito precautions still apply for comfort.
How do you get between the islands?
Mahe to Praslin is a fifteen-minute domestic flight or a fast catamaran ferry of about an hour. La Digue is a short fifteen-minute ferry from Praslin. Book ferries ahead in high season.
When is the best time to visit with children?
April to May and October to November are the calmest, with light winds and clear seas, ideal for swimming and snorkelling. It is warm year-round, with a wetter, windier spell from June to August and December to January.
Do the resorts have kids clubs?
Some do and some do not. The bigger resorts on Mahe and Praslin, like Constance Ephelia, Kempinski, Constance Lemuria and Raffles, run free kids clubs, while smaller properties and the La Digue hotels usually do not, so check before booking.

Yes, the Seychelles is relaxed and very safe by day, and the islands are small. You can walk, cycle or take a taxi, and La Digue is car-free and explored by bike, which children love.
