Is the water really shallow enough for a toddler?
Yes, and it is the reason to choose Lahami Bay. The reef sits offshore and shelters the bay, so the sandy seabed slopes very gently and stays shallow a long way out. It is about as close to a natural paddling pool as the Red Sea gets. Water shoes are still worth wearing, and small children always need an adult within arm's reach.
How long is the transfer from the airport?
Plan on two hours or more each way, as the resort is well south of Marsa Alam town on the Berenice road. It is the main downside, so it suits a longer stay rather than a short break, and families with a baby should organise the transfer, snacks and water before leaving the terminal.
